Merry Christmas!
This Christmas we started off decorating a few weeks later than normal because of our trip to Memphis. When we pulled out our tree we discovered it had been ruined in our garage. (Thanks to our neighbors leaving their door open and letting stray cats in every night! Sharing a garage is the pits. My father in law helped me put up a chicken wire fence so hopefully the problem is solved.) Luckily, I still have a little white tree I bought for $3.00 at a yard sale when I moved out of my parent's house. I think I like this little tree and we will hold off on buying a bigger tree for a few years - it's nice not having to pull cats out of the tree every day. They didn't even try with this one! My mom was watching Ebin and Rhiannon for us during their winter break and they had a few fun days of making gingerbread houses and cookies. They were so proud of their houses and my mom made a cute gingerbread girl! The kids' Grandma Peggy stopped by with presents before she went out of town: It was also fun to see pictures of Emmy in the Christmas PJ's we bought for her. She is adorable! On Christmas Eve we upheld our Gilmore Family tradition of going out to Rib N' Chop for dinner. Every one of us ordered the baseball cut steak because it's completely amazing. At Rib N' Chop they give you crayons so you can draw on the paper table cloth. Ebin challenged me to a draw-off so I quickly drew both the kids and they thought it was awesome. Another tradition is to take pictures outside on the street in front of Rib N' Chop after our meal. We always have fun doing this - just wish it wasn't so cold! The only thing missing from this picture is my brother and his family - we sure missed them! After dinner we headed back to my parent's house so the kids could find the pickle on the tree. The first one who finds the pickle gets their pick of a prize! Rhiannon always loses and as you can tell in the picture below, she is not happy about it! Haha - she is too cute. We hightailed it home and got in bed before Santa showed up! When we woke up on Christmas morning we found the evidence of his visit! We didn't waste any time and started opening our presents. We all got some great things! We spent the rest of our morning playing Super Smash Brothers before heading over to my parent's house for brunch (PIGGY PUDDING!) and presents. This year I made family photo books for our parents - glad they loved them! We spent the whole day watching movies and playing mexican train. When we got home Danise (bio mom) came by to give the kids presents, too! Welp, that concludes our Christmas holiday! It was a lot of fun and we had a nice time spending it with family. Next year we hope to spend more time with Chris' parents - they traveled to Florida this year to spend Christmas with my brother in law, Josh, and niece, MaKenna.
Merry Christmas! At the beginning of December, Rhiannon and I flew to Tennessee with my parents to visit my brother, Sean, and sister-in-law, Cory. Their daughter, Emmy, was born in October but we made a trip out to meet her and be there for her baby blessing. (Read Rhiannon's Birthday post to watch the video of Rhiannon when she found out she was going to Memphis to meet her new cousin, Emmy!) This was the second time Rhiannon had been on a plane so she was extremely excited! We all had a good time traveling together and were excited to meet for lunch with Sean, Cory and Emmy at Central BBQ for some famous Memphis BBQ! We actually had quite a bit of BBQ on this trip and I have to say that It would never get old for me - it was just too good! After the BBQ we got to see Sean's house and visit with Emmy. She is just darling! We spent the rest of our evening by going to a drive-thru Christmas light display at a park. They also had camel rides. (holy crap!) When we got back to Sean's house we gave them some clothes for Emmy. Rhiannon found some special things for her, too! The next day Sean's friends and Cory's mom came into town so we stopped by for a quick hello and then went off to see Memphis! Our first tourist stop was the National Civil Rights Museum. The Lorraine Motel is where Martin Luther King, Jr. was murdered and it has been turned into a civil rights museum. Rhiannon has been learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. at school this year and plans on putting together something for her class to share with them what she saw and learned. Our next stop was Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. I am not a die-hard Elvis fan and it is a long tour so we didn't actually go in and tour his home but we did stop for a photo! Our last tourist-y stop: Beale Street! Dad and I walked the street and had fun checking out the shops and listening to music. We ended out the day by trying some Gus' Famous Fried Chicken. It was possibly the best fried chicken I've ever had. It was spicy and amazing! On Sunday we went to church for Emmy's baby blessing. She wore the dress I was blessed in and was wrapped in the blanket Sean was blessed in so it made the day even more special. Sean gave the blessing and it was perfect. Emmy was quiet through the entire thing. After church we posed with the cool nutcrackers in our hotel lobby before changing and heading over to Sean's place to have more Emmy time! We went for a family walk/jog around Sean's neighborhood and ended up playing at the park. We had a wonderful trip and wished it could be longer, even though we missed Chris and Ebin the whole time. It was hard to leave but hopefully we will see them again soon.
