On Sunday we went to church for Emmy's baby blessing. She wore the dress I was blessed in and was wrapped in the blanket Sean was blessed in so it made the day even more special. Sean gave the blessing and it was perfect. Emmy was quiet through the entire thing.
At the beginning of December, Rhiannon and I flew to Tennessee with my parents to visit my brother, Sean, and sister-in-law, Cory. Their daughter, Emmy, was born in October but we made a trip out to meet her and be there for her baby blessing. (Read Rhiannon's Birthday post to watch the video of Rhiannon when she found out she was going to Memphis to meet her new cousin, Emmy!) This was the second time Rhiannon had been on a plane so she was extremely excited! We all had a good time traveling together and were excited to meet for lunch with Sean, Cory and Emmy at Central BBQ for some famous Memphis BBQ! We actually had quite a bit of BBQ on this trip and I have to say that It would never get old for me - it was just too good! After the BBQ we got to see Sean's house and visit with Emmy. She is just darling! We spent the rest of our evening by going to a drive-thru Christmas light display at a park. They also had camel rides. (holy crap!) When we got back to Sean's house we gave them some clothes for Emmy. Rhiannon found some special things for her, too! The next day Sean's friends and Cory's mom came into town so we stopped by for a quick hello and then went off to see Memphis! Our first tourist stop was the National Civil Rights Museum. The Lorraine Motel is where Martin Luther King, Jr. was murdered and it has been turned into a civil rights museum. Rhiannon has been learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. at school this year and plans on putting together something for her class to share with them what she saw and learned. Our next stop was Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. I am not a die-hard Elvis fan and it is a long tour so we didn't actually go in and tour his home but we did stop for a photo! Our last tourist-y stop: Beale Street! Dad and I walked the street and had fun checking out the shops and listening to music. We ended out the day by trying some Gus' Famous Fried Chicken. It was possibly the best fried chicken I've ever had. It was spicy and amazing! On Sunday we went to church for Emmy's baby blessing. She wore the dress I was blessed in and was wrapped in the blanket Sean was blessed in so it made the day even more special. Sean gave the blessing and it was perfect. Emmy was quiet through the entire thing. After church we posed with the cool nutcrackers in our hotel lobby before changing and heading over to Sean's place to have more Emmy time! We went for a family walk/jog around Sean's neighborhood and ended up playing at the park. We had a wonderful trip and wished it could be longer, even though we missed Chris and Ebin the whole time. It was hard to leave but hopefully we will see them again soon.
