We had our friends, Layne and Matt, visiting from Louisiana so we played tourist guide and took them to Yellowstone National Park last Monday. We loaded up a cooler with a huge sub sandwich and potato salad, threw it in the car and made our way to the East Gate. We didn't particularly like that we went smack dab in the middle of tourist season but we made the most of it and enjoyed ourselves anyway.
Yellowstone is America's first National Park and only an hour drive from our house! Could end up badly if the super volcano decided to blow up in our lifetime but meanwhile we can enjoy it. :P We had our friends, Layne and Matt, visiting from Louisiana so we played tourist guide and took them to Yellowstone National Park last Monday. We loaded up a cooler with a huge sub sandwich and potato salad, threw it in the car and made our way to the East Gate. We didn't particularly like that we went smack dab in the middle of tourist season but we made the most of it and enjoyed ourselves anyway. Our main goal was to watch Old Faithful erupt and it took 3 hours to get there with a lot of gorgeous scenery and wild animals along the way. Get ready for pictures! We had such a great day in Yellowstone and it was so nice to enjoy the beautiful weather and open spaces together! We can't wait to go again! Make sure to read the next blog post... next we went camping in the bighorn's!
We had a super fun 4th of July weekend! ![]() On the 3rd, my friend, Layne, and her husband, Matt, came to visit us here in Wyoming so I took the whole week off of work because she lives in Louisiana and we don't get to see each other often. The kids and I picked them up at the airport in Billings, our closest large airport that is almost a 2 hour drive away. It was a happy reunion of old friends (15 years and counting!) and we all went out for a good meal at one of our favorite places: Old Chicago! We visited and did some shopping in billings before heading home. It was fun to see Layne and Rhiannon wearing their matching Ketchup t-shirts in preparation for our Ketchup party for when we got home. Layne is a Ketchup lover and when she found out Rhiannon also had a love for Ketchup she bought them matching shirts. When we came up with the idea for a Ketchup party in honor of Layne and Rhiannon I looked all over Pinterest for ideas. I didn't have much luck as it looks like no one else has Ketchup parties. Luckily in England people have American parties and Layne had ordered some Ketchup party supplies! It was pretty hilarious but we actually did it! We dunked french fries, pigs in a blanket, popcorn chicken and dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets in ketchup for dinner! My parents were out of town going to a Journey concert (lucky!) so they let use their home to get a break from our non air conditioned house on the 4th of July. I cannot say enough how happy I am to be married to an amazing cook! Chris made some delicious burgers with mushrooms and we ate them with fruit, chips and drank a bottle of Martinelli's! I loved that we toasted to freedom and frendship! Most of you already know this but my mother is amazing. She has always made holidays extra fun and special growing up, through her decorations. Since building their home, she has dialed down her decorating to look absolutely beautiful. No matter how much I try to be as good as she is and has been, I will never have her natural talent to bring spaces to life. I am always, always, compelled to take pictures. This is just one of many reasons why I admire and love my mom. After eating, we took some pictures out back and watched some good ol' Netflix while cleaning up so we could go over to our friend Jeff's place for fireworks. We had a lot of fun together despite being eaten by mosquitoes The next day, Layne and I treated ourselves with manicures and pedicures in Cody, Wyoming and some Bubba's BBQ for lunch. It was so relaxing and also fun to show her the Wild West!
